Woodcraft Chinese 12k stone
Has anyone ever used a C12K from Woodcraft? Just curious about quality. I had them special order to the store so I'm not committed to buy it (wink). Let me know what you think.

Chinese 12k
A forum search will show all sorts of threads about this stone.
I'll chime in anyway... I love mine, leaves a very nice finish. I use mine with a little lather, maybe a little slurry depending on where I'm at with the razor. Very slow, hard to screw up with it.
The price is great and I think it equals some stones with much pricier reputations.Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.

Lots of people get theirs from Woodcraft. I love mine as well. it's an excellent stone, and with a little slurry, it cuts down on the number of strokes needed. The only thing I would do differently, is I would get the smaller size if I had to do it over again.. the 8x~3 is a little big if you plan on holding it in your hand while honing. I'm having a fellow student cut mine down for me. once that's done, I'll have a couple nice slurry stones, and 3 stones instead of 1

follow-on question
how would you make a slurry for the C12K? Do you need an extra piece of stone for that?

I also have one. It works good but slow. I use it on the harder steel razors like US steel and German steel. I judge the hardness of the steel by how it it loads my 8k Norton. The C12k really smooths out the edge after the 8k. Good low budget hone for the results but it will require a bunch of honing laps to get there.

I know what you mean and i agree with you, however, we ask peoples opinions in the hope that they will give us good, unbiased, advice in fora such as this for a reason and if it saves on the bus fair then that's ok by me too
ian - who might get a Chinese 12k one day when he needs it ....
