    The back side of this looks to be... marble? Any help item#140390938608

    I think that the markings are just the conglomeration of swarf, oil and dirt left by honing on the upper surface of the hone - it has run down the sides and stuck to the bottom. The lighter brown marks are probably just the metal particles from honing turned to rust. The stone looks a bit like a translucent white arkanas to me.

    I definately looks like an old/vintage Arkansas translucent. Nice find, imo.
