Default Found this old hone, is it usable?

    Hi All,

I just found this old hone at a junk shop. The gent said it was an old oil hone. After cleaning it up some, it appears to be a hunk of glass. As you can see from the photo, it's translucent. It's 2" by 6 7/8". Is this usable for getting an edge back when my razor starts pulling, or even making the edge finer after a barber's hone?

    Thanks,

    Moe

Window in the background, you can see pretty much through it.

There are small chips on the edge, the revealed area of the chip is very shiny.

HMMMMM I rubbed my monitor screen and yep it feels pretty smooth so it should work

Honestly this is called a WAG but I think you might, maybe, possibly have snagged a Translucent Arkansas stone which can be used if it is fine enough...
See what I mean WAG = Wild A$$ Guess..

I am confused on this. Your picture isn't clear. Please don't use any software after you took picture.
It is some kinda reddish stone?
i doubt it is arkansas (too thin and wide) Again this is just guess.
usable for razors only you could know.
Post new pictures may be someone can help more.

More photos added. No software used on the photos, direct from the camera mem disc to upload.

    Thanks,

It looks very similar to the hones that were made using ground Brazilian quartz with a synthetic binder, same colour and those hones are translucent too. I've seen a couple on ebay, but never picked one up myself.

    Kindest regards,
    Alex

I agree with Sham, that doesn't look like a translucent arkansas to me.

+1 Brazilian stone. I own one and it's my finest finisher, also keep an eye out for slury stone that should come with it, sadly mine didn't have one.
