    Default Raven Barbers Hone

I just picked up this Raven barbers hone unused with its origanl box. So tonight I decided to give it a shot. WOW! It worked excellent. I was using chroium oxide on a balsa wood strop to touch up my razors when needed and I was getting a nice shave but it didnt last too long. This Ravens barbers hone gave a much nicer edge and a buttery shave. Im hooked im doing my razor touch ups with this from now on, I hope the edge lasts longer than the chromium oxide does.
Has anyone heard of or used a Ravens barbers hone before and know what "k" it is, im guessing 8000k+? This hone is very hard and smooth will it still need to be lapped? If so what would I lap it with. Its nothing like anything in my Norton set. If it does need to be lapped could I use my Norton lapping stone? Any help would be appreicated.
    Thank you, Sincerly Tony B.

I've seen one but it was a very long time ago and I didn't buy it only because I had some redundant grit range barber hones at the time. It did seem to be a hard non-porous barber hone.

If you're getting great edges off it now, don't lap it. The way I figure, why would you need to? You can lap barber hones, but the factory finish is removed then. You can "get it back", but it takes many steps and progressively finer grits, etc.

Given you have success now, I wouldn't mess.

Nice snag on the Raven hone.

I'm not a big fan of barber hones generally, but the one I do want is the Raven. I find the all-black stone, in the all-black box with the embossed Raven on it, to be very, very cool looking. I wanted to get one just for it's cool vintage black vibe, but hearing that it puts a nice edge on a razor is really good to know, thanks.

I;m right there with you Slim. Good catch on the Raven.

That, and being a Magpie, I have this thing going on with the Corvid concept.

I got one of these from eBay a month or so ago. They really are great I must admit! Glad you like yours!
