    Default Found a Hone Today

Hello guys. I was just wondering what I've got here. Found it at a flea market. I'm assuming it's an oil stone as it was covered with the stuff. It's smooth but not as smooth as a barbers hone. Any way to tell what grit it might be or if it would be any good for honing razors? Thanks for any help.

I probably should have taken picture of both sides. I think I may have taken pictures of the bottom but I'm not really sure.

Looks like an Arky to me.

Would it be good to use for razors? Where would it fit into the honing process? Thanks.

Just did a little research on the Arkansas oil stone.

Looks like I found a good hone for my pocket knives.

it is Ark and that doesn't mean you should use only for knives. it may be well suitable for razors. just try to test it.

hi_bud_gl and Jimmy are right of course. Whether or not it is a fine enough specimen for razor use, it certainly is a very handsome hone. Congrats!

Yes...if it meets finishing or density requirements, it could very well, fall under the category of a pink translucent...but from the pictures alone, it is hard to tell for sure.

Nice hone ! Looks like a Washita , to me . The Washita is a medium grit hone , and is not as fine as a Hard Arkansas .

I have seen both Hard Arks, and soft, that looked like that. Its defiantly an arky in my opinion. And if its a good one, it can be useful for razors, if you dont mind how painfully slow they hone.
