Chinese 12K with a slurry
I tried this a while back on a couple of blades and was not real impressed. I have one blade that is very hard and still had a few of what I can only guess were 'DMT scratches' that would not go away. Pulled the CH12K out and worked up a slurry. Knocked them right down. Slowly reduced the slurry and got a fantastic burnished edge that shaves very well.

Thanked: 44I use a Chinese hone without slurry. I do around 100-150 laps and I shave well.

I finish most razors with about 50 laps with just water and 10-15 dry laps. Great, long-lasting edges. This particular razor (stainless) has been a bear to get that last little .5% and I will probably not have to use the slurry on it again.
Nice to have another arrow in the quiver for those 'exceptions'.

Thanked: 199I also noticed raising a slurry on it cuts down significantly on the number of passes. Just as with a coticule, once I get done with the slurry, I will wash the stone and razor well, and do a few laps with just water to give that "nice" polished edge

Thanked: 0I just got my Chinese Stone in the mail and honed with it for the first time. I am new to honing but this stone was really easy to hone on. I got a great edge the first time after about 40 laps. I've no experience with other stones to compare it to, but i can say I'm happy with it. At the very least a great first stone. And it was very reasonably priced. About 40 with shipping.

Thanked: 20I usually finish with "3 steps" on that stone: 1) w/ slurry 2) with water 3) dry
then off to the strops. Smooth.

They are good finishers and will be fine for touching up a keen edge that needs a bit of TLC. It you are going to expand to honing dull razors from start to finish you will, of course, need some more rocks of varying grits. The 'what hones do I need' and the hone comparison chart in the SRP Wiki are helpful in determining what is what with that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
