Default Not too sure if I want...

    Hi all,

First post and all but I was curious about this hone I found on ebay.

    Barber Hone

I am not too sure about this one as the seller doesnt supply the grit level. The price seams ok at the moment, and I would really like to get into honing. Just wondering if this would be worthy of purchasing.

Welcome to SRP. I don't know the stone. It may be, as the seller says, appropriate for razors. OTOH, I see nothing on the box indicating that it is. It is a roll of the dice unless someone comes along who has experience with the stone and can confirm that it is a razor hone. At best you'll have a good barber hone and at worst something to use on pocket knives or tools. See the SRP Wiki in the link below for tutorials on which hones are recommended .
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Hmmmm...... the dark side looks much to coarse for a razor but that may just be the pic. In addition, the box says nothing about it being suitable for a razor.
    Good luck.

I think it's way too coarse, the dark side could be around 500 in grit, which would put the red side around 1-2k. Most barberhones have an embossed label, better to get one of those for a few bucks if you want one.

I agree with you guys it is way course and may be 1k level. some seller when used for straight razor stone they not always meant to final finishing stone. they could say it is for bevel setting etc.

Thanks for the advice guys, the stone didn't really look the part and I am glad I came here before I made a purchase.
