    Default Woodcraft DMT System

Purchased this set many months ago in the event Id actually hone a razor. Can anyone chime in on it's merits, use, sequence of red, green, etc. If I'm way off base on this let me know. I want to begin honing some of my recent antique store finds. Any help is appreciated.

I know some guys talk about using DMT's to hone and really like them, but personally I don't like them for honing. I find that they are quite aggressive - deeper scratch marks, more of a likelyhood to microchip, very easy to end up with uneven wear if you apply even slightly uneven pressure, etc. These are the downsides that go along with the ability to remove metal quickly, so it is a tradeoff.

But aside from saying, please be careful if you do decide to use the DMT's, I cannot really offer any advice.

I owned this set..actually still do

The red is a DMT 600, the green is a DMT 1200, and the metal plate is a 8000 grit.

I found that the DMT 600 and 1200 are great to keep around for bevel setting, but, I ended up not keeping the 8000 grit.

I'd love to see a video of someone using a set like this on a vintage blade that needs to be taken through the paces from bevel setting and onward... Any links to something like that?
