Thanked: 324Mystery Hones. Three nice stones.
Here are my "mystery hones". I don't know what they are but all three are really nice stones and each very different. First is probably the most beautiful stone I own. It's got wonderful brindle colors and is an extremely fast cutter, although not as quite as fine a finisher as the other two, at least as far as I can tell just yet.
Next is a grayish greenish stone that is very fine and rather small about 4" x 1-1/4. It feels much like a fairly soft Escher and may, in fact, be one, but I don't know.
And last, but not least is a stone unlike I've ever seen before. It's got great character and pattern and is a very fine grit hone, indeed. Seems slow cutting but very very fine.

Is it me or are the top two photos the same stone? I don't think the third is a Tam... no idea what either are.

Thanked: 1371I think this was supposed to be the first one:

Without the striated lines the third stone would be a dead ringer for a Tam.

Thanked: 324I was thinking it was an Arkansas stone but it's got reflective mica sparkling throughout and just doesn't look like any of the Arkansas stones I've ever used or seen for sale before. I can't say for certain that it's not but if it's an Arkansas stone, it's rather unusual from what I'm used to seeing. Very cool looking stone.
