The Hone With Holes
Curious hone just saw on ebay, "The Hone With Holes," from the Peforated Hone Co. Read the label and see the marketing pitch - claims it eliminates over-honing by taking off a burr. Any truth to the concept?

Thanked: 3795It's a marketing gimmick. Yes, even in the old days marketers made suspect claims in order to part you from your money. It's just a barber hone with holes. I've never overhoned on a barber hone. I'm not sure that I have ever overhoned on any hone. Regardless, the holes don't do any harm and it is a decent barber hone, but not a favorite of mine.
By the way, the back side of the hone doesn't have holes, so you can carry on your own controlled experiment.Last edited by Utopian; 06-21-2010 at 10:41 PM.

Thanked: 1371It works awesome! For a modest fee of $50 I will drill holes in any hone that you're willing to send me.
Disclaimer: I don't think it actually works awesome, nor do I actually offer a service of drilling holes in otherwise good hones. Drill holes in your own stones at your own risk.
