Default JHAD... Hideri Namito Koppa... inbound

Weak moment caused a JHAD itchy scratchy

The more I work with these stones the more I want... Oh boy...

I don't even know the range on this thing but for some reason I decided I must have it... So it is on it's way...

nice stone, let us know what is the performance.
It should be in the sub 10k range.
I got the Ozuku Asagi , it turned out amazing stone that easily covers 3-8/10k range. In my progression, its my second stone after my bevel setter.

Well it came in along with a couple nagura (Chu?). This stone is rather soft compared to my other stones but VERY fine grit. I used the nagura to raise a slurry but I think the nagura is ALLOT harder than this stone as the slurry was the same color as the stone. Thirsty stone as well, had to apply water to the surface 3 times before it stayed any amount of time.

My first use was on a razor I had just set the bevel on at 1k. I wanted to see where this stone was going with a heavy slurry. Feedback was soft but good, I could feel the 1k edge smoothing out. As I thinned the slurry I could see the polish build up. Granted this would take allot less time if I use finer stones before this but I really wanted to see what this one would do. Also being a smaller stone just took time as well All in all I used this stone for about 45 mins from heavy slurry to plain water. And the polish was pretty frigging good I must say. But being a softer stone I could see that I would need to flatten this after each use.

I've used 3 razors on it so far and got good results as far as the stone was concerned. Last night I made another video and after I was all done and uploading I remembered that I totally forgot to strop the two razors I shaved with in the video... Funny part about it was that the Griffin XX shaved beautifully and the Imperial was only soso... I bet if I remembered to strop the bugger it would have shaved fine LOL... But the Griffen... without stropping WOW!!!

I may turn this into a travel stone as the size is great for palm work and is about the same finish as my Ohira...

Where do you buy these stones?

I like my hideriyama too. I wanted a large, soft stone; but it is not so soft as the average aoto-which is good

It strikes me as unusual though, to refer to one as namitio, because those are Kyoto strata, and hideriyama is not. It is from the Ai-ishi, which I have heard described as one thick layer, or actually more like a ball iirc. which is why the stones that come from there can be very large and very consistent-no obvious layering.

fwiw the shave from mine feels like an 8k

    Kevin we get them from
    here:
Japanese Natural Sharpening Stones, Japanese sharpening stones, Japanese natural stones
Mark gets them from Takeda so they are good stones.
If it is out of stock ask and he will get you one.

Shawn, the try the nagura with your asagi see how it works.
I got my Koma from Mark, now I have Mejiro , Koma and in combo with Any of the finishing stones I have I can get really great edges, right after 1k.

Kevin's right, Ai-ishi stones aren't from the honkuchi naori, so there aren't any "namito".

Who is this Takeda? Does he have a website? Cause if he's charging people for unstamped Nagura, I wouldn't trust him.

that is the same Takeda that Livi used to get steel for his razors from.
I got two stones from him and they work exactly as they should.
