Thanked: 46Coticule Pron
well I lucked out big time, found this lovely stone which is by far the rarest and most beautiful coticule I have seen. A true grain of wood pattern coticule, vintage with stamps and all. What is even rarer is that it is a natural combo with the wood grain pattern and there is absolutely no BBW anywhere to be seen pics definitely help to explain it is like a brown color with some mad striations which I am sure is the combination of the BBW with the coti but the color is way of on anything I have ever seen, and it is so dense with garnets that it glimmers in the light. Truly something to admire, will test it out soon and post results. Here are the pix enjoy!

Thanked: 46the rock says belgischer brocken and the number 8, I tried it and damn, this rock performs in the weirdest way it is by far the hardest coticule I have ever tried, it has a unique feeling and it hones pretty darn good the edge is really nice. What I really wasn't expecting is the slurry from a cotigura to be white and I mean WHITE like no creamy color at all, with slurry the finish is similiar to a japanese hone (not the edge just the look of the steel which is like misty) I will shave in a few hours and report. All the experimentation has been done on the grain pattern side, I haven't touched the other side.

That looks like a Les Latneuses. If it is, you've got an excellent stone. The other side has nice properties as well. What a great find! Congrats!

Thanked: 46I just shaved off the hybrid side and the shave was interesting... The edge wouldn't pass the HHT but it would cleave hairs of my hair by just floating it??? that is a new one for me. Anyway the shave wasn't super comfortable, I guess you could say it was a bit harsh nothing uncomfortable but compared to the Jnat it was a bit rougher, BUT! I did notice it left a finer stub going with the grain than other stones I have finished on. So I guess that maybe running it through Crox would eliminate some of the harshness and give a super nice BBS shave. All in all I am super pleased with such stone. Next I will try the coticule side, though I am hesitant since the stone isn't flat and I really don't know if I should delete the stamps for histories sake, after all I can use other stones right? RIGHT???

Thanked: 46Theres two very cool things about this hone and one bad one. The cool parts are: its pretty to look at and its a collectors item, the second one is that: assuming that all that is said about it being a superb finisher (the results I got were pretty good but still lacking a bit) if I get the techinique right, this stone is really different from anything else I have tried before; way harder than any other stone I have tried, except! like maybe two unknown stones I had. It should be a really good stone to finish off. The slurry BTW is really something, scratchy, whiter than other coticules, smelly o god its like cooking really good steak on the BBQ.
The only negative thing I can see, is that I particularly don't like it when a stone that is rare is considered as a super finisher, why can't the local backyard stones be super finishers? anyway I hope people don't think this is a "rare stone best finisher ever" kinda post. Thanks to all.Last edited by Memorael; 07-04-2010 at 02:56 AM. Reason: Forgot to tell you about the slurry

Beautiful stone. I don't know why I'm thinking this but I would try lapping a bit more off of the top and see if that doesn't improve the stone. Maybe not but I would try it. Belgiescher Brocken is still in business here. I think they get their stones from Rob at Ardennes .... or so I heard, I'm not sure.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
