That little fragment of a label on the end on your hone increases it's value 10 fold! Protect that little bit of paper.
Looking at the dirty grimy stuff made me think it was a carbo cheap stone at first. lucky man!!!!

If Utopian is offering 10 fold, I will raise to 11!!

    Not offering, just admiring.
But 11 is one louder, isn't it!

Actually that was a second stone I had from a few months back. I still haven't cleaned the original stone I showed, but I'll try to get the stuff at least today to get it cleaned. Might have a surprise awaiting on that stone as well!

True, and great humor, but 11 fold of the 1 dollar he paid for it would be a great deal!!!! So, 11 fold is still my offer.

Seriously, good luck with your Thurry.

Would this mean to chill out on the oven cleaner idea? only if oily?

I hope to be just like you some day Koosh. I know there's a dollar stone waiting for me somewhere.

Paid 4 dollars for the thurry actually. I'm working on cleaning up the first mystery hone at this moment. Stubborn fellow!

Edit: And here are the pictures of the first hone I had in question cleaned three times with Easy Off. Still some dirt, and I guess oil in about the same spots. Just won't come off even trying hot water and soap and scrubbing on it.

Yes, maybe. Given how little of that label is left, if it were my hone and I ever considered that I might sell it , I would probably cover the label with clear lacquer or nail polish in order to protect it to retain it's re-sale value. Then, oven cleaner would be okay for the rest of it if there seems to be any oily residue. Otherwise, I'd just lap it.

By the way, this is completely off topic, but do not buy anything from the seed company under that hone. They go by many names including:

Additional DBA Names: Richard Owen Nursery
    Farmer Seed & Nursery
    Four Seasons Nursery
    Inter-State Nurseries
    Exciting Gardens
    Royal Dutch Gardens
    Honeycreek Nurseries, LLC
    Kelly Nurseries
    Plantron, Inc.
    Burgess Seed & Plant Company
    Direct Gardening

By any name, they are rip off artists. They have pretty catalogs but they send crap. Read online reviews if you don't believe me. I bought a few things from them and they were all dead or worse. How can they be worse than dead you ask? I bought 4 trees that were supposed to be 18" high. What I got were 4 STICKS--not a single hint of a leaf, or bud, or even anything resembling a root. I actually had a hard time figuring out which end I should put in the dirt. Getting money back from them is an exercise in futility. They tell you to give the plants a chance to recover from shipping and then they tell you that you waited too long to request a refund.
