Boker Smooth Russian Leather Paddle Razor Strop With Razor Stone
I've been poking around online, looking for a "travel"
strop. I came across this item on KnifeCenter.com:
High quality strop for sharpening and honing. Made out of smooth Russian leather, and has a slate plate on the back side for perfect resharpening of straight razors. Two long cavities below the leather provide the necessary flexibility for an effective and gentle honing of the thin razors. Dimensions (leather strop/slate): 1-5/8" x 15-3/4" x 1-1/4". Total approximate length: 13". Includes a traditional push-cover and instruction manual. Made in Solingen, Germany.
Is anyone familiar with this product?
What sort of stone is the "slate"?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Paul

Even at Böker they don't specify what kind of slate it is.Last edited by Piet; 08-08-2010 at 11:43 AM.

Thanked: 2209Your best guide is to read the reviews at knifecenter. Some slates are abrasive, i.e. the Welsh Dragons Tongue so this may be ok as a touch up hone. Your other option is to get a separate, known, stone/hone to take along.

I travel from time to time, I simply coil my strop leather side out so it wont kink the leather, I also take a barbers hone for touch ups. No need for special equipment IMO. But if the AD sets in and you have to have it, have fun!

Thanked: 3It's been a few months back, but I emailed Boker and I believe they said the slate was 5K grit.
