    Question Shapton 16K Glass lapping

Is it ok to use a sheet of 3M on the 16k like I do with the Nortons?

Sandpaper, right? If it works on your 8K side it should be alright on the 16. Bear in mind that the DMT and Shapton plates are approximate 325 grit when you choose the sandpaper.

I personally would NOT recommend any type of sandpaper on the finer shaptons. (shapton did not either)

Maybe you remember how shocked I was about the scratch marks,
my 16k left? The same was for the 12k pro.

Now, they don´t do that anymore, because I switched to a DMT for lapping.
It did all the difference in the world!

You can of course lap your stone with any kind of sandpaper,
but look out for funny scratches after lapping.

I use a 325 DMT for all my lapping, so sandpaper of a similar grit (300-600) should be fine.

If you find you have scratches on the stone after lapping with sandpaper then lap again with 1000 grit paper to remove them.

BTW. I didn´t mean scratches on the stone! I meant scratces on the bevel produced
from what I believe asre inclusions of sandpaper grit

Warning: Shapton Glass hones only have a very thin usable layer of abrasives. If you lap it away you're left with a useless stone.
