Thread: honing instruction

I know there are a few video's out there, but is there anyone in the S.California area that is good at honing that might be able to show me the fine points of honing in person. Also is there any cheap new razors that would be good for practice honing? I'd hate to ruin a good razor. I thought I heard that The Gold Dollar razors took a good edge and figured for $10 ea they would be good practice blades, but then I read that they don't take a good edge. So what to practice on?

They are capable of a shaving edge ... the problem is that they are rather inconsistent, so as a Newb you wouldn't know if it were your newbie honing skills causing the problem, or the myriad of small factory problems that can be found on a GD...
