    Default Lapping new hones

What grit of wet/dry sandpaper would you recommend
for lapping the following new hones:

    1) Norton 4k/8k combo
    2) Naniwa 12K

It's gotta be sandpaper...I can't afford another stone.

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,

In the wiki lapping article: Hone Lapping 101 - Straight Razor Place Wiki, they recommend using paper in the 320-400 grit. Just make sure you have a nice flat surface to put the wet/dry paper onto.

    Default Thanks Dave

Thanks Dave. I read the wiki....I was just wondering if
there was something more specific required for these
particular hones, based on other's experience.

    All the best,
    Paul

I've got Naniwas and actually the wiki pics are exactly how I lapp my hones. It's right on the money and works like a charm.

I picked up a piece of 1/2 tempered glass to lap on. It was only 20 bucks. Try a local glass shop and see if they have anything laying around.
