    Default SUCCESS!

Got the Naniwa 5,000, 8,000, and 12,000 to try my hand at honing and I was pleasantly surprised. Somewhere in the last few months I picked up 8 old razors and figured it would be cheaper to invest in the hones and do it myself. I chose two at random and they passed with flying colors. I barely felt them going over my face, and it was a heavy beard today. That's it I just wanted to gloat for a bit.

thats great, now you can save some flow on honing services. Looks like you need to add 1k bevel setter. I find honing to be very relaxing.

    Congrats,
It's such a sweet feeling when you whet your first straight.
I enjoy honing but only get chance to do it when my few razors need it.
Maybe I should volenteer to hone other peoples or just get some cheap ebays for practice??

level up, congratulations! Now you will find that there are further levels of sharpness and smoothness to reach. You will know when you get there. It's a lot of fun!

My first success honing was just a few weeks back, since then I've gone a little crazy honing lots of razors and enjoying shaving with them.

However handy or economical to hone your own, the real benefit is in understanding the blade and how it cuts and seeing how different blades respond to your technique both on the stones and on your face.

I think I'm a better straight shaver because I've honed.
