Thanked: 0How many years of use could I expect out of a 1 x 3 x 8 waterstone?
Half is 4000 and the other half 8000. Brand Norton.
If I would use it to maintain just one straight razor which is used to shave everyday?Last edited by ironman9889; 09-19-2010 at 03:20 AM.

Thanked: 3795To maintain just one razor?
I'd guess about 150 to 200 years.

Yeah, that hone should easily outlive the razor and the one after that...

I don't know for sure, but given your scenario you might never consume the whole stone. Someone like Lynn, who has worn out several 4K/8K Nortons, might be able to make an educated guess. I think it will last long enough that it's projected life span is sort of a non-issue.

Thanked: 13245I can sorta answer that and Lynn for sure can...
My 220-1k Norton I wore through the 1k side at about 4000 razors..
My 4k/8k has seen about 3500 razors now the 4k side is just a touch over half gone, and the 8k side has barely any wear at all showing..
I seriously doubt you lap near as much as I do either so lets just do the math..
1 razor honed say 4 times per year, at the very least it should last 1000 years
Let me know if I was right OK ???

Several life times if all you are doing is maintaining one razor. I agree with Glen's math.
