Thanked: 3795Yes!!!!!!!!!
It is a glued coticule. Don't worry about the cracks, they generally have no impact on the honing.
If you lap the bottom dark side, you can determine if is a BBW (Belgian Blue Whetsone) by the color of the slurry. If it has a purple tint, it's a BBW. From the apparent age, it almost certainly is BBW. Newer ones use slate.
Lap it, chamfer the edges, and have fun honing!
Edit: Sorry, I did not realize you had not bought it yet.
Is it worth buying? It depends on the price and if/how you intend to use it.Last edited by Utopian; 09-25-2010 at 02:29 PM.

That's a nice Coticule/BBW glued combination with a nice thick Coticule layer. If it's worth buying depends on the price, the value of stones are subjective.

I think that the non-coticule side is slate, not BBW, as usually are mounted the cotis

Thanked: 3795I disagree. Given its apparent age, the odds are high that it is not slate.

It looks like the deep rock SALM coti I just got from Sham. Only bigger. Was there a box or anything with this stone?

The one coticules seem better than the new ones which can leave much to be desired with their results. Good luck with the auction, but be advised that coticules leave all different kinds of edges depending on the stone..

MODINE, what could you possibly require a Deep Rock coticule for now that you have a Honyama??
That looks like a good coticule. I have found in my limited experience with coticules, that the vintage ones give better edges than the new ones. YMMV
Don't pay too much for it though!
