Thanked: 1Where to buy DMT 325 in Europe
Guys
I need it to lapp my hones and following suggestions I want to get it to replace a naniwa flattening stone I bought - which isn't flat.
I was going to buy from SRD but it is no longer in stock.
I'm confused as to what it actually looks like - confused between these three models
Mfr Code: W8C
Dmt Diamond 8in Whetstone in Wooden Box 325grit - Coarse: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors
Mfr Code: D8C
DMT D8C Diamond Sharp Whetstone 8x3in - Coarse DMTD8C in Sharpening Stones from DMT at MP Tools
"Trueing Block" - or is it this ?
Trueing Blocks | DICK GmbH - More Than Tools
Ridiculous I cannot figure this out myself but after wasting EUR60 I don't want to repeat the lesson so would really appreciate the help on identifying exactly what I should get
Thanks,
Paul

two first can both be used
last one dont come in coarse
if i was laping anything harder then nanivas i would get XC or XXC as 220 or 120 grit
oh and the perforated one may be a little faster for lapping

Thanked: 1Thanks for the reply Janivar.
If I got the following 120 grit version of the DMT 'diasharp' line this would then be 100% flat when I get it?

I would like to order from this place as postage is only EUR10 and I can get some nagura stones as well.
It will be used to lapp Naniwas 1k,3k,8k and 12k. No doubt i will get others so going to a 120 grit would also be useful if I get the lower of the naniwa range to sharpen knives....something I'd like to do once I get the hang of honing correctly.
Thanks again,
Paul

I got my DMT on ebay UK. There are several of them, mine which I purchased off a tool merchant.
Olivia, a former member, sells all 3 for 140 Euros. Based in Germany. Olivia's handgemachte Naturseifen

even though Olivia is a wonderful place to buy it is improtant to know she sells the small versions of the DMT!
Look at the dimensions. You want the ~200x70mm one for lapping etc.
I recommend DICK. I bought mine there a couple of weeks ago.
Dick doesn´t carry the coarse, but is able to get it for you.
It might take 4-5 weeks, though and costs about 60€.
You definitely have to ask them about the DMT C 325 in ~200x70.
Like I said, I got my 325 from them.
The thing about flatness and DMT is: usually they come very flat.
There are a couple of reports of DMT that are out of whack.
This would be very unfortunate because I dnon´t know about replacement procedures for
special orders. You might want to ask Dick about this.
I checked my 325 and 600 and both where within tolerance and leave perfectly flat surfaces.
The DMT 325 is highly recommended for any Naniwa from 1k to 12k.
If worn in correctly and without high spots it will cut a stone flat quickly but leaves a very, very good surface.
No scratches if done correctly. I am pretty sure the 120 will leave not only scratches but actual holes in the surface,
that need refinement afterwards.
And btw. why bother buying Nagura if you can use your DMT 325 to build a nice slurry?Last edited by Lesslemming; 09-26-2010 at 12:23 PM.

Thanked: 1I need it sooner than 4-5 weeks so will go with the 600grit range, I expect it will just take me a little longer to hone the naniwa 1k hone but that isn't a problem.
It's a good thing I asked as I probably would have gone with the 120 grit, making another mistake

the 600 grit lapping stone was my first DMT as well.
It works and leaves an outstandingly fine surface.
But as you pointed out takes a little longer.
You should avoid the 1k if possible to prevent premature wear.
If you need serious lapping work, go with 320 grit sandpaper on a glass plate and switch to the 600 for a very nice finish.
I use the 600 now on any stone finer than 8.000 like my shapton 30.000 with perfect results

if you try doing full lapping with the 600 you will probably see the diamonds dissapear from the plate fast
I use the DMT 220 on all my naniwas and the only ones that is not smooth is the 1k and 3k
DMT recomend 120 and 220 for lapping and 325 can be used for soft stones
