Thirsty 8K Naniwa
I have a set of Naniwas 1,5,8 &12K. They work very well.
One thing I have noticed, is that the 8K stone sucks up water MUCH faster than the other ones, and I need to wet it much more regularly than the other Nani's.
Has anyone else found this with their 8K?
Thanks

Mine is the same way-- not sure why. I just spray mine more often than the others as I use it.

I can't tell if mine absorbs the water or if it just runs off more easily. Either way, I definitely add more water to the 8k than my 5k.

Thanks Benjamin.
Yep, it really is a thirsty one, but it does not seem to affect my honing too much, even though I would assume there is some swelling in the hone due to the large amount of water it takes in. Let's just hope it swells uniformly! LOL

mine started being thursty a year after I bought it
But it never was so I had to soak him. Usually I spritz twice or thrice during honing on the SS 8k. It´s a very nice stone (maybe my favourite!)

That's weird...maybe your 8K became a raging alcoholic after a year of being scraped with razor blades, and now she's very thirsty! Mine just came out of the box an alcoholic and loves drinking every drop I give it!

Thanked: 2259I noticed that myself, but I thought it must be my imagination...
I'm glad to read that others have noticed the same thing.
