    Hones don't just serve the vintage razor market. Dovo and TI still make and sell new razors and there is at least the possibility that as demand increases for straight razors, a corresponding demand will be seen for hones, especially for maintaining or touching up razors. Whether that's enough to trigger Naniwa to make an 8K/12K or 5K/10K combo hone in 6"x2" size…who knows? How hard could it be?

    I'm sure it's not hard to do it, but they'd have to tool up for it, and that is expensive. (IIRC, the Naniwa 3k/8k combo hone started because Naniwa got a contract or some such from someone or other to make it. Then once they are tooled up to make it, continuing to offer them is no strain at all.) That is the same reason why there are so few sizes and grinds of new straight razors offered. Would sales profits surpass the cost of production?

    Hi Lawson;

    I run into similar quandaries often enough to have become fearless at modifying existing products to better suit my intentions, or at times start from scratch. It's not exactly the most frugal way to go around; but you get what you want. (Full disclosure: It's not always worth it)

    There may be an outside chance of finding very used stones. If you ask in the right places maybe someone would pop up willing to pro-rate. If they have very thin stones; they'll be needing new ones soon enough; 'cause once they get thin-thin they are easily broken
