Thanked: 13Well, there are lot of hones sold in germany, that are called thuringians or are compared to them. All of them are slate, some are said to be good or even great… It´s all very confusing. To make it even more confusing, there are two companies called Müller that are making Hones, and both of them have very fine slate hones. Now, the one company is called MST, and I´m far from sure, but i´ve read somewhere, that the hones sold by Wetzen und Schleifen are from them. Some like them, some say they work, but there are better ones. I have one and I don´t use it (that doesn´t mean it´s bad. I means, that I have better hones). The other Müller hone is said to be like the old thurinigans, although it seems not to come from Thuringia. They were sold in germany, someone posted a good review and they were sold out. Now, there are still some available, produced by this company. I don´t know exactly, where the slate is from or if it is still the same slate, but i have one of those, and i like it. You can get them here, for example:
German Thuringian water Hone for Sharpening Straight Razors and Fine Edged Tools
Hope, this confused post helped anyone…
Regards, tok

I love the "Reep away oil" text on the box, makes me smile everytime I see it.
