Let us know what you have.
Another cheap option will be go to auto shops buy sanding paper 220 grit up 1k max and find some flat surface use it.
This will be the easiest one.

Wetn dri on flat surface as Sham says.

Also coarse valve grinding paste or SiC powders on flat glass eat Arkies for lunch. Just add water

I've used a sanding mesh to lap Arkansas stones. The mesh works faster and lasts longer than paper, you can even use both sides but you will have to finish on paper to get it perfectly flat.

I've used ordinary dry sandpaper, 100 grit. I have a large polished tile I use as a surface. Every so often you have to knock the dust off the sandpaper as it loads up. Soft ark laps pretty quickly.

just last night I used a piece of 120 wet/dry on a thick piece of glass on a soft ark and it worked fine. I was going to go back tonight and use a piece of higher grit paper
