Thanked: 20hone from the underworld
I have two 7/8 Filis and one 8/8 Wacker, for some reason the Filis are very hard to hone and so is the Wacker I assumed it is because the Filis are spanish steel or
Toledo steel. All spanish steel I had to hone, pocket knive or kitchen knive or regular knives have been very hard to hone. I have finally been able to hone the two Filis and both are great shavers. The Wacker is a different story, I cannot get it honed the way I like it. I purchased a BBW and Coti and will see if this will do the trick. Any suggestions, ideas or honing tips on the Wacker will be greatly appreciated. Someday I would like to shave with the Wacker. Juan.

If you make a search about honing big wedge blades you should get all the info you need, the same goes for coticule honing.

What type of grind is the Wacker? I have a Wacker 7/8s full hollow and it was pretty straight forward to hone. Fillys are known to be hard to get shave ready.
Tell us more about your honing routine. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

It is hard to give advice without knowing what you're dealing with. What do you think is going on?
I doubt that buying a new stone will solve the problem.
Also, even though you didn't ask, I'll hone it for you...

Thanks for your offer, you are in my neck of the woods, Abilene, Tx. I used a magic marker on the edge before honing and the rear left side of the edge was not ereasing the magic marker. It could be an uneven edge. Since I always wanted to add BBW and coti to my stone collection, this will give me a good excuse to learn the way of Belgians. The Wacker is a full hollow and I tried Norton, Kings and Naniwas on it. Eventually I will master this razor as I have all the others.

If you don't have a 1k stone for bevels then I would try making small circle strokes on the norton 4k side, it helps speed things up.
Your hones were lapped,right?
If you do have a 1k stone you shouldn't move up at all until it can shave hair along the entire edge.
Could you list the hones you have with grits?Last edited by Disburden; 11-08-2010 at 02:29 PM.
