For lapping the lapping stone I went to my local glass store and for 20 bucks he gave me a piece of 3/4 inch thick tempered glass. It is 12"X18". You can place a full piece of sand paper on it and have a perfectly flat surface.
The best part is that it was only 20 bucks and sand paper is pretty cheap.
