Thanked: 0Ebay can really stink at times
I've been having decent Karma lately, I've been very careful, but I just recently won two auctions of "Escher" like hones and am sorely disapointed. Had they even been finishing hones or somewhere close that would have been one thing. But the gentlemen claimed to be very knowledgable about Eschers and blah blah. Plus coloration and how it translates from the monitor to reality never ceases to suprise me. One of them is a fairly gritty Unknown and the other is a BBW, yeah thats right Blue Belgian. How anyone can sell a bbw as a likely unlabeled "Escher" is beyond me. I'm going to stop now cause I'm kind of ****ed off and he's probably a really great guy who everyone loves and would trust their firstborn with. I'm going to move forward assuming an error was made and go about returning them. I've never returned an ebay item before. I'm the first one usually to take the hit or accept responsibility for having decided to buy and hoping for too much. But this one was just too flagrant.
On the bright side, the day before I did get my very first real Escher and A "Celebrated" Thuri and they are velvety revelations. Especially the Escher, it's a Yellow/Green and I've never felt anything remotely like it's like honing on a piece of glass, in a mud puddle. There is for me this illusory feeling that the hone is dissolving rapidly to muck, and of course it isn't. It's just so thick and smooth, SO I have finally joined the Escher club. oh and another surpise I knabbed that vintage Coti/BBw natural combo from sears with the letter and while the layer of Yellow Coti is so thin it's easy to imagine seeing through it, conversely the BBW is so thick that it blew me away the thing is only 4x2 but man is it heavy. The blue layer alone is 1 1/4 inches thick or a little over 3 cm whereas the yellow is approx 1mm at it's thinnest and 5 mm thickest. Such density though... Colonel Mustard in the library with the Coticule ...hehe sorry slipped off there for a minute.
THanks for letting me ventLast edited by Vektor67; 11-12-2010 at 07:44 AM.

I may have had the two Escher like stones in my watchlist. Could you post the pictures or links to the auctions?
Pictures of the other stones would be nice too. Welcome aboard.

Every single of us made mistakes on ebay don't get frustrated about it.
Just some seller wont put up clear pictures or stone will be so dirty hard to fgure it out.
about your coticule.
As thin as yellow coticule will be BBW needs to be thicker to protect it.
You may have a great coticule.Try using it and see what happens.

Thanked: 3795You have learned a valuable lesson about eBay sellers. Lots of them who can talk the talk still don't know anything about what they are selling or else know enough to rip off those who know less.
There a couple of constant hone hucksters on eBay. There are many more razor scammers. Some of them go through a long description of the elaborate process they used to hone your razor to shave readiness and then when you get the razor it has a highly polished bevel with an edge as dull as a butterknife.

I think the better advice would be "Until you can tell the stones apart, stay away from all the sellers." Once you know what the stones look like, you will be able to avoid the problems on your own.
Which is to serve as a reminder that SRP does not blacklist sellers... eBay is beyond the jurisdiction and interest of the administration here.

The Goldfisch may be purple and look like a BBW but still be a Thuringian. I have one without a box and it has pretty much the same colour as a BBW.

You should post some close-ups.

Thanked: 1936I do hope you gave appropriate feedback.
I feel your pain, no matter how well you think you have triple checked something you still don't seem to get what you thought you were about to.
I think I found those "Escher" type stones on the completed listings. Did you get both from the same seller?Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
