Thanked: 3795
You've got a great hone for yourself there. I believe those are Thuringian hones and are at least comparable to most of the Eschers, some of which also were labeled as extra soft.

A friend and experienced collector of hones believes that the Fox hones, some of them at least, were made by Escher. I don't know if that is correct or not but, as Utopian and Piet have said you have a very fine finishing stone there.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3795Escher was a hone company in Germany that sold honing stones from the Thuringian region of Germany. Thus, all Escher brand hones are Thuringians, but not all Thuringians are Eschers. (Like Levi's and blue-jeans)

J.G. Escher & Son was a company that quarried, finished and distributed very fine razor finishing stones in Germany beginning in 1709 and ending in the early 20th century, Their stones have gained legendary status among razor honers and are in high demand today.
