    Default Do you soak Ch12K?

Just used my new Chinese 12k stone today and got a very nice smooth finish. I didnt notice until afterwards that the box says to soak it before use.
Just wondering do you guys who use them feel its necessary to soak them or do you just get em out and use them.
    Thanks
    Grant

My C12 doesn't absorb any water at all. I got a feeling that water drops are "jumping" on the surface like pool balls, that's looks really funny.

I soak mine with my other stones for 30 minutes an just leave it in the water. I have not tried just spritzing it as I go.

I don't soak mine but I do put several drops of dish washing detergent in the water, wet the surface of the hone and let it sit for a few minutes before honing. Sometimes I skip the wait and haven't noticed any difference.

If you put a drop of water on the stone and spread it with your finger, you will find that water does indeed absorb into the stone. It is slow, but the stone does take in water. Despite this, I have never been able to discern any difference in the stones whether I soak them or not.

(Since I haven't mentioned it for at least a week, I'd like to point out that the Chinese hone is not 12k!)
