Glad to hear they are good ones. I just wonder if using oil would shorten the laps ? Just a thought. When Lynn and Sham were using the Charnley Forrest stones they found oil worked best on the CF and those are novaculite, like the arks. I've had real good results with my translucent and my surgical black but I did use honing oil.

Thanked: 33It may go faster with the oil, but I am glad I am able to use water and do a few more laps... Mainly because I don't envision using them that often. A good stropping after every so many shaves is all you need for a while, right?

Thanked: 33Well, follow-up. The Morley Clover had trouble shaving at the tip yesterday and I have to switch to a different blade. No cuts or anything, just not comfortable. So I went ahead and checked it out, and sure enough there were still three micro-chips (Ha, made a joke) towards the point - - I am just using a 10X photography loop to scan the edge. I will attempt to hone it again today and get out those chips. So I checked the edges of the other five that I have since honed, and only one other showed any problems. So this morning I got up and shaved with my Royal Keen Kutter by Simmons, and it shaved like a dream. I am very happy with that one, and I honed it myself. Yay! I am not sure if I need to do a rocking motion on this Morley, but I will watch some more videos, and take it nice and slow!

Get this (what a co inky dink, as K. Bundy might say): Of the last 3 I've acquired, one is a Morley and the other is a Royal Keen/Simmons. They are both in great shape, and I even shaved off the Keen Kutter without honing it (a first ever). But it's slated for some coti-love today.
I also have a Simmons Barber's Pet and it's a great shaver.
The Morley has the finest little pins I've seen, and is getting a full, bevel-set workup.
And I just bought what appears to be an Arkie--tha's how i came to dig this thread up.Last edited by WadePatton; 02-09-2014 at 05:18 PM.
