Thread: Naniwa 12K Question?

I haven't had micro chipping and I like the results of honing on the 12k. Could it have been the individual's stone or perhaps razor ?

I go 20 strokes and so far no micro chipping.

10 strokes is not enough to completely up to date for me.{perhaps a lack of good technique from my}
I use 30 strokes, strop and shaving, have found out that works for me.
Normally, that being enough for him, according to the experts on this site.
Some people say you will also have use a strop with Chromium Oxide.

I used to use at least 30 passes on the 12K with good results.

I tried cutting it back to 12 passes after reading similar posts about too many passes on high grit stones causes microchipping. This resulted in a less satisfactory edge for me.

i think you should do 10 at atime.test shave and see how it goes . you can always do more. i've used the 10k and 12k after coticule edge and had no chipping.

When dealing with blades whose metal is marginal, microchipping and burr edges are a problem on all hones. This is infrequent though. For almost all razors, I think you can hone indefinitely on the 12K without problem of any type. (This assumes light touch, etc.)

20 seems to be the magic number with the Naniwa 12k, which is great because that happens to be my routine too!

I've had no problems with microchipping either, quite the opposite. It's a great hone, especially for touchups.

I do 15 with no problems.
