Default Finally got a Chosera 1k

I've wanted the 1k Chosera, which I have dubbed the Big Green Beveler, ever since Lynn brought one to a WNY meet. But they are on the expensive side, and I had other bevel setters so I could never justify the cost. Until now.

Over the last year or two, I've accumulated quite a bit of change. (An interesting sidenote is that it's pretty much all from my trips to the post office, as the one I go to is on a college campus and does not accept debit cards.) About a week or so, I thought it was finally time to count it all up, roll it, and make it into real money. As it turns out, my total was $100.50.

With my new, and seemingly free, money, I purchased the Chosera 1k. It finally arrived today (a day late, because FedEx cannot drive from Chicago to Syracuse without incident, and I don't know why they drove PAST Rochester...).

I absolutely LOVE this hone. Unlike the SuperStones, it's hard, so it works well as a bevel setter. It produces just the faintest slurry on it's own when you use pressure, so it can really eat steel. It doesn't clog up with blackness. It's gentle on the razor. It also leaves a very very smooth bevel to work up off of. In short, this hone is fantastic, and I wish I'd just sucked it up and bought one sooner.

Now I find myself wanting more Choseras... and I know what I'm going to do with the next round of loose change I roll up.

I never liked the 1k Super stone, too much clogging for my taste, so I went for the chosera and never regretted. I also have the 3k chosera which I like a lot too.

The Chosera 1k is the only one of the series that I kept.
I kind of neglected the 5k and the 10k.
The 1k is a very good worker. It serves me well for all kinds of bevel setting,
and does so on kitchen knives as well.
Slurried with the little (rather huge) red cleaning stone you get a ver,
very quick cutter with a good scratch pattern.
If I donĀ“t work on the Shapton GS 1k, I usually grab the C1k

I was able to run some tests on the chosera's a couple years ago and was amased at the feel off these stones. However the cost at the time was just to insane for me... They have come down a hair sence then but OUCH...

I'll have to put up with cloggy shapton GS's for bevel setting... for a while at least

Yea, the price put me off too. Hence the change thing. It's free money!
