Thanked: 1195Interesting.... thanks guys.
Yes, my main intention was to lap off as little as possible, but it seems clear that it is better to wear the stone a bit rather than bugger your razors.
Makes me think I should have bought another DMT 8c, cause mines gonna get a workout

My understanding is the 4k material needs to soak for about 15 minutes, but the 8k does not need soaking. I only recently purchased a norton 4k/8k and this is coming from the instructions.

Thanked: 4942I have been using the 4K/8K Combo for about 10 years and it gets soaked in a pitcher for around 15 minutes or so before every use. No problems yet.
Have fun,
Lynn

If you're going to get another plate get a DMTXX 120. Eats barber hones for breakfast and laps waterstones for dessert. If I have a lot of lapping, according to the pencil grid, I go to the XX and then finish with the 325.
I have the single grit stones and I only soak the 1k and 4k but not the 8k. So far so good.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
