if i am not mistaken you will not be happy with this stone.
it is thuringian but courser then usual old thuringian.
i have one of those and similar huge size color is similar. i even don't know where i put that stone.
you can use it as a lower grit stone but not as finishing one.
hope this helps.

Thanked: 26It's extremely fine. It would take hours to reset a bevel. I can take 100-200 passes on it when wet and it polishes the edge, but removes very little metal. After I strop with CrO2 you barely see any scratches at all. It's 80% mirror finish with a few interspersed scratches at 30X magniifcation. It shines mirror like to the naked eye before stropping. Thanked: 2209We use the term "Escher" rather loosely here. We are referring to a type of hone variously labeled German Waterstone/ Thuringen/Escher. Escher was a brand name. This type of stone was quarried in Germany and , like most natural stone, came in various colors and grit ranges. The only way to determine how good one of those stones are is to actually use it.

Thanked: 26Is there any definitive way to tell if it's a Thuri? Or if it hones well, is that all I should really care about? Thanks, Rick
