    That's what I thought too. It almost looked like mud on the last lateral view of it.

    to me it looks like sandstone like the old pedal powered sharpening wheels which can deteriorate with age or if it's too damp or dry for too long,a lot of old butcher shops where i live have then in the back room not being used and the yellow side looks similar

    In my humble opinion, it doesnt appear to be a coticule at all. What is it? I couldnt tell you, but I would bet big money its not a coticule.

    Hi.
    You are probably right it is some kind of synthetic. This hone is so soft that is falling apart. Oh well, i will keep looking for another one.
