Thanked: 3In person, and sitting right next to each other, the C12K is a very slight darker grey, more like a blue-grey while the smaller stone is more just grey. In certain lights and at certain angles they almost look identical though. Dang this is frustrating!
I got this stone in a lot with a few others off ebay. The seller did not list this as a Thuringian nor did it come in any case or package.

Thanked: 3Oh well, we might never know for sure lol. Whether its Chinese or Thuringian, it's still a good finisher.
I do have a real Thuringian coming in the mail soon. Another ebay win. It was in a box that was labeled "Genuine Thuringian Water Hone" so I will at least be able to compare this one that I have with the real deal.

Thanked: 3The one thing that still leads me to believe that it might be a Thuringian is that, as I mentioned the Chinese is definitely "Blue-Grey" but in certain lights the small hone has a slight "Green-grey" tone. It's hard to catch unless you look closely.

Thanked: 1072For what its worth, it looks pretty similar to my Thuri. Also my one was quite easy to lap and round the edges compared to the PHIG

Thanked: 121Given the color, size, and that it was in a lot of presumably old hones, I'd vote for Thuri. My Thuris are visually and tactily indistinguishable from my Guangxi, but the edges they produce certainly are.

Thanked: 1936When you lapped it, did it seem soft or rather hard? My thuri & eschers have a softer feel when lapping...the c-12 just feels harder when lapping.

Thanked: 1195Unfortunately, the fact that the box says it's a Thuringian means very little, unless there is a label on the hone itself or some other identifier. Many times hones or razors don't come with the original box - misleading? For sure, but we are dealing with antiques and there's really not a lot we can do about it.
Considering how much Thuri's can run I really do wish you luck with your latest acquisition.
