    Default My Nakayama

Just go this one from chefknivestogo.com. At the website, it is called "Jyun-syou-honyama" that they had bought from Imanishis stone company, however, the stamp saz "Genuine Naka yama?" I am not sure the translation between "syou" and "Naka"... anyone?

No matter... it is a fine stone. It puts a super-fine haze over the edge with a Chu nagura slurry. I am happy...

I am working out another purchase with Maxim at JNS... (I really do not like how PayPal chose to do their business!!) a nice hard Asagi Shoubudanis and a tomonagura alone with it. Can not wait to close the deal!! Maxim has been MOST patiently with me.

Nice sized stone, Nakayama is the name of the quarry or mine.

"Jun Shou Honzam/Honyama" (Pure and True Source Mountain) is kind of a generic term applied to natural stones that come from Atagoyama in the Shoubudani/Narutaki area of Kyoto. Nakayama, Narutaki Mukaeda, Oozuku, Ookudo, and many more are all labeled with that.

Since they're all from the same mountain, and they come from the same strata of rock (the Honguchi Naori) they are all from "the true source."

If it's from Imanishi, and he said it was Nakayama, it is...he's no fly-by-night.

Thanks JimR and Stefan for the corrections... sometime just being able to read the text is still not enough; "los in translation" kind of way.

Yes, it is 3" x 5.5" and ~ 1" at the thickest part. It came flatten. A VERY comfortable size to hold in your hand (at least my hand) or place it on the table. You get lots of feedback as you move the razor across the hone surface, but butterly smooth at the same time. It is kind of hard to explain.
