Thanked: 10Pike India Hone
While recently going through an antique mall, I came across a pike India hone in a wood box. I remembered reading something, somewhere about Pike, or India, or Norton, but couldn't remember what.
For a few bucks, I figured what the heck, and bought it. 8"x2"x1". On one long edge "Norton Company, Manufacturers, Worcester, Mass, U.S.A."
Below that is, "Pike Mfg. Co., Oil Stone Sales Agents, Pike, N.H., U.S.A.
The face of the stone has the Pike emblem on the left, INDIA in large letters in the center, and another round emblem on the right. One one end is printed
"O-Medium INDIA"
I'd like to clean it up a bit more with oven cleaner, but I'd hate to pull out the printing. Would this be safe?
Can anyone enlighten me/us on this stone? With the medium designation, I'm guessing it could perhaps be a bevel setter, but since I have no experience honing, I'll rely on others experience.
If it can be used, between this and my Droescher, I'd just need the middle stuff.
Any info would be appreciated. Sorry about no pics, but I have absolutely no clue on how to post pics, and all I have is a smart phone camera.
Thanks,
Kevin

Does it look like this?
if so, then i am familiar with it. I always regarded it as a medium-fine stone for knives, so i imagine it would be a bit coarse for razors. but if you've got a dull razor, you may as well give it a try.
