Thanked: 1Question about hones
I saw this contraption at the local sporting good store its a Smith's Tri- Hone knife sharpening system. It has two Arkansas stones and a quick-sharpening bonded abrasive stone. The two Arkansas stones are a "fine" and a "medium" stone. I was wondering if these would do as a set of razor hones or if they would be to aggresive.
I don't know much about hones so sorry for the nube question.

NO is the short answer. I have the same setup from lansky's,and besides being a pain in the neck to use,it takes time to get the knack, and they don't tell you that you need one other piece the make the whole process easier. I got the hang of it with knives, and my results took much longer than using the wheel I already had and no better than using the DMT I already had. If you want one look on e-bay ,there there all the time Ive found

There has been at least one other thread about the Smith tri-hone recently; I'd suggest taking a look.
I searched the "hones" section for "smith" and it was right up by the top of the list (along with this thread): http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...ighlight=smith
What you'll find is that the guys who are known to put great edges on razors say it doesn't work or there are much better alternatives, though there are a few guys who say they have been using them for years with great results. I suppose you can interpreted those two points of view however you'd like, but I know how I interpret them.Last edited by holli4pirating; 02-03-2011 at 04:12 AM.

Im sorry about that post I made comparing it to the Lansky,I was thinking
(or not thinking) about another contraption for sharpining, the lansky it a totally different one. Its not suitable for razors
