Vintage Barber Hone
Hi all. I stumbled across someone selling a vintage barber hone in very good condition. The price is also very reasonable. I am a beginner and I don't know how to hone a razor, but I have heard that a barbers hone could be useful for putting an edge back onto a razor to increase the time between proper honing. I was wondering what other members think about barber hones and their usefulness.

Your kit is not complete with out a barbers hone, absolutely essential.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 1262Barber hones work very well. As soon as you notice your shaves starting to degrade, 5 strokes is usually enough to bring it back.
What is the barber hone and how much? Reasonable is very subjective

I recently bought a Boss barber hone at a flea market for $20, so your price sounds about right.
I also used two sheets of wet-or-dry sandpaper (@ $1/sheet) to lap it flat. That thing is _hard_.
Haven't used it on a razor, yet.

Barber hones are great, I love mine. What I do is wipe my brush with lather on them for glide and then do about 5-8 strokes depending on the edge.
Have fun!
