Thanked: 13245Swaty Score !!!
Been after one of these for quite awhile..
This is the Swaty 8 inch Razor Hone and it is on the way here to lil ol Me
I just happened to find it as it came onto E-bay with a BIN so I just bought it...
I actually can't wait to test out a few theories with it, I have always wondered if these were designed more as a bench hone, rather than a pocket hone, and therefore a bit different in the finishing dept.
Time will tell,
I am thinking of after cleaning it up I might mount it to a 3x8 piece of clear 1/4" thick plexi so it is easier to use in a stone holder and sealing the face downward in Epoxy so it is always preserved

Thanked: 3795As far as I can tell, they perform exactly the same as other Swatys.
I think your plans for that hone are just plain cruel, but I suppose you can torture it any way you see fit. Just keep it away from your other barber hones so you don't make them nervous.

No difference Huh??? well that is about disappointing news Thanks for wrecking my morning Ron
I have always thought there had to be a reason they made them this long

i have to add a little more to Ron's opinion.
i think they perform a little less then usual size ones do.
the quality the issue that is why they made this ones longer.
i cannot believe such experienced person make unforgivable bad a mistake.

Glen,
From what I've read online over the past year or so is the the long Swaty is more of a sharpening stone than a touch up/ finishing stone and thus leaves a less finished edge than a normal three line swaty.
This is two line, correct?

Thanked: 13245This is what I have found to be IME so far with selling many barbers hone's
There is no difference in the lines of text, either 2 lines or 3 lines
There is a difference in an actual "Three Line" Swaty they are stamped with those words "Three Line"... IMHO I think they might be a touch softer, more velvet feeling.... I did not say Finer Grit!!!
Personally I think someplace back in the mists of time the myth of the 3 lines of text on the Swaty got confused with actual "Three Line" Swaty and has just continued along...
Now as to the "Long Stone" Swaty, I have no clue, but I am gonna test it

I have a long 3 line and a standard 3 line. I use the long one when I use them. Seems to work just the same to me, only better 'cause it's longer.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Glen, saying that the long Swaty is made of the same stuff as the short one shouldn't bum you out. Swaty is still the best barber hone there is ..... IMHO. I may be wrong, I was wrong once before.

Nice score Jimmy! Love to hear more about it. I have these in my study collection but not a long one like yours.
