    Default Chefsknivestogo Jnats

Anyone tried this Jyunsyouhonyama stone from chefsknivestogo? I want to try a Jnat that is affordable, and I would like to know if it is really good for razors. Im not expecting the performance of a 2000$ Jnat, just something around or above a coticule edge. For ~40$ it seems like a good deal.

    Jyunsyouhonyama small size

I haven't tried that particular stone, but Mark at CKTG is a really good guy. If he says it will work for razors, it's certainly worth a shot.

Based on what little I've heard and the reviews I read, I'd guess that it wouldn't be a finishing stone. It would probably be a prefinishing type stone. I'm going to buy one soon for knives, though, so I'll get to test it and see. Some other people who've tried it may be able to tell you more

Well, that is what Im waiting for Someone who tried this stone for razors. If this is no finisher,I could consider the Ozuku Asagi for 50% more.

Check out one of the reviews. It's by DC, which I'm pretty sure is DwarvenChef who is a member here, and he tried it on straights.

The Ozuku is out of stock right now. Just based on reviews, I'd guess that it would be a pre-polisher as well. Can't know for sure, though, because natural stones do vary.

I'd be cautious what Mark says, only because he is not honing razors in the numbers we do. That stone is in the 6-10k range and is a prepolisher.

Ahh, thats good. That means that I can't get a Jnat for relatively cheap, and that means that my money is saved Than I stay with my coti

Is it worth taking a knife to that level? I use my Chosera 1K for knives as well and that works for me, but I've been looking at the Chosera 3K to up that a bit. Taking it to 6-10K seems overkill, but then again I don't make my own sushi....

nat stones are best used to bring the contrast between jigane and hagane.
For regular use no need to go above 5k.

I got the Nakayaman from Mark. I have only try it with a Chu nagura and then another no-name super-fine nagura for generating slurry; in both cases, I got a really nice smoth haze along the edge (Chu nagura makes it a really fast hone.) I have not try it with just water to see how far I can take it yet. Stay tuned...

    Here is a picture of the stone. It is ~ 5.5" x 3" x 1".
