    Default Comparing a Franz Swaty hone to The Velvet Edge hone

    I have a NOS “The Velvet” (as the sticker on the hone states) hone that comes in a little white box that names it "The Velvet Edge”…

    How would you compare this Velvet hone to a Franz Swaty hone?

    From pictures I’ve seen, the Swaty hone is very similar. I would think I would use them both the same way, as a touch-up barber’s hone, but is the performance the same, similar, or very different?

    From my experience with Barber's Hones there seem to be three basic feelings as the razor is drawn across them..

    Slick
    Standard = most Swatys
    Velvet

    I break them into those three categories and rank them by comparing them to a Swaty...

    As to which of those give a better shave??? I personally have never determined any noticeable difference...

    Now whether your Velvet really feels that way I guess only you will know

    in my experience velvet edge barber hone is finer then swaty.
    if i am not mistaken your stone should have only 1 side.(color) it is not 2 different grit stone.
    hope this helps.

    The performance will be very similar but what your looking for is how the resulting edge shaves you and there is only one way to find out...try it.

    That just reminded me of the old "Try it... You'll like it" commercials.

    I remember well JFK's assassination, my dad was a Colonel in the Army and it was one of the few times I saw tears in his eyes.

    And my name is not Mikey! (Unless she is good looking)
