Went to Jarrod’s
I bought my first honing stones from Jarrod at TheSuperiorShave. What I bought was the Naniwa Super Stone 1000,5000,8000,12000, Norton Prep Stone, and DMT Sharpening Cards 3.25 x 2 x 0.05" D3C. I am planning to by a DMT Duo-Sharp W250CXNB 10 x 4 x 0.4". I can’t wait to learn how to work these stones.

Thanked: 2209You have some of the best hones available. Be sure and checkout the threads about lapping and soaking the Naniwa SS hones.

Thanked: 35Good choices. Maybe the 3000 after the 1000 would have
been a better choice than the 5000, but I am guessing
you did your research here.
The Naniwa SS are fine stones that do not require soaking. The
duosharp is a good plate to keep your waterstones flat with.
Good luck to you.

Thanked: 44I use the SS 5k after my 1K. It polishes the bevel fast. No need for the 3K IMO.
ps: For normal maintenance sharpenings to fix a razor that has started to pull, I usually touch up with the 8 & 12K. If that doesn't fix it, I go to the 5 K. I rarely go down to the 1K unless I ding the edge slightly (on my strop, or hit the fingernail of my stretching hand, etc). The 5K seems smooth, but is more aggressive than you'd think.

I received my new large select coticule from Jarrod's site a few weeks ago and it was a real pleasure to work with him. He talks to you in emails while you wait for your stone and he ships fast.
