Thread: DMT325C Contaminated?

Here's a quick photo. It seems to be shinier at the corners and there are small dots of shiny metal showing through. I gave it a scrubbing with cleanser and a nylon brush. It seems cleaner, I'll try it some more tonight when I get back from work.
Thank you,

Rub your fingernail over the shiny spots and compare them to the rest of it. Then rub your fingernail on the untreated underside. You should feel the diamonds cutting your nail if they are there.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 13245Also I realize that some of you guys have trouble with these DMT's but here is a typical day in the life of my DMT 325
Last night and this morning
2 W&B Near wedges
3 Hollow grind Solingen
1 Swaty Barber's hone
Do quick laps on Chosera 1k X 5 then add 3 x more because the one wedge razor really was a bear to set the bevel...
Have to cut a pre-bevel on one of the Hollows using the DMT325 with a drop of soap and water 10 minutes of honing on it
Final finish lapping and Chamfering on the Swaty about 10 minutes of solid work initial work was done on a DMT120
Quick lapping Henckles 1k x5
Quick lapping Henckles 3k x5
Quick lapping Henckles 8k x 5
Quick lapping Select Coticule x5
Cleaning the DMT 325 and the 120 with a stiff Nylon brush and Comet to get the Swaty residue off there...
Dried lightly on a towel and placed back in the cupboard to do 8 razors tonight on the Chosera 1k and the Full Shapton run of 1-2-4-6-8-16-30 x 8 each stone
I have been doing this on this one DMT 325 for 3+ years about 5 days a week averaging 6 razors per day...
So either I have a Magical DMT, you have a total dud, or you did something wrong... I can't say which..
But you can see why I recommend them and consider them to be the best workhorse on my honing table...Last edited by gssixgun; 03-11-2011 at 06:40 PM.

It seems to file my thumbnail and scratch my wife's glasses... (they were her old prescription ones) so I guess it still has some diamonds on it. I never really cleaned it so I think it was loaded up with kitchen knife. I'll give it another go this weekend.
Thanks for the replies everybody.

Thanked: 13245TY Marcos, I will now proceed to hone a magical Chronik razor on it, with a magical La deda vein Coticule and have a perfect shave with an edge that only cuts whiskers and not skin whoops I forgot I have to strop it on the $20 (shipped) strop I bought made from "High Quality" leather
Life is good again hehehe
Sorry here guys

Thanked: 124Were you applying alot pressure to the hones when you were lapping? If so, that could have helped shear the diamonds from the DMTs edges. You pretty much only want to use the hones weight when lapping, though if a stone seems to need alot of work I will put the DMT on top, since its pretty heavy.

I use my DMT a lot for both kitchen knives, lapping hones and edge repair and it's still going strong after 2 years. I personally am really pleased with mine and I'll definitely be replacing it when it finally gives up the ghost...!

Now that it's clean it's working WAY better. I think it was a combination of not cleaning the DMT, pressing to hard, and not using enough water.
Thanks everybody!
