Best place to pick up a DMT 325
I have been lapping/refreshing my norton 4k/8k with wet/dry sandpaper and a flat surface, but I am thinking I want a lapping plate/flattening stone. I was considering the Norton Flattening stone, but I keep reading that people are not too impressed with them (not flat from factory, and dishes very easily).... so I am thinking that a DMT 325 is the best way to go..Any thoughts?
Secondly, if the consensus is that a DMT is in fact better, where do you guys recommend picking one up at? Price being a HUGE fator, where can a poor man get the best bang for his buck?
Thanks.

When I got mine, I did a bit of searching around, and this was the cheapest place. Of course, that was a couple years ago.

Thanked: 1262DMT can lap anything get one. You want the coarse(325) or below for lapping.
Cheap.. not sure how to help you out there. Do not see used ones very often and you want to be careful with buying a used one.
The duosharps are handy, since you also get a fine side for bevel correction work, or bevel setting if your heart desires.

Thanks!
$46 isnt terrible. I shoudl be able to swing that in a week or two if I put a few pennies away. Quick question though. I was under the impression that to lap a waterstone (norton 4k/8k) a 325 grit diamond would work fine, but the site above says the following;
"Extra-Extra Coarse diamond (XX) - (120 micron / 120 mesh) for extreme removal of material and edge repair. They are well suited for flattening conventional and water stones such as those made by King and Norton. Using grits finer than this to flatten waterstones may damage the plate and is not covered by warranty"
and of couse, the Extra-Extra Coarse is about $25 more. Is the above statement true in everyones opinion, or that just their way of extorting more cash?

Thanks Larry-- I never even thought to look there
I am on there all the time oogling strops and razors and such, and never even noticed that they sell waterstones.
look at that... they are even cheaper.
Well, as soon as I get the cash, I guess I know where I am getting it from.
BTW: I am thoroughly enjoying the razors, and would not hesitate to recommend you to a friend. Unfortunately all my friends want NOTHING to do with a straight razor, and think I am insane for putting that "deadly thing" against my face-- oh well, to each his own
Thanks again.

Woodcraft carries the DMT as well. If you have a local store it might be worth a phone call to see if they have one in stock.
