Thanked: 0Set of waterstones
Hello all, I'm new to the straight razor and have a few questions.
So far, I have the newly purchased razor, the brush, and a Naniwa 8000 grit waterstone.
The blade did not come shave-ready, so I'm wondering which other grits I would need to purchase in order to achieve the appropriate sharpness? Also, I'm looking to purchase the additional stones online, as the 8000 grit I purchased was from a specialty shop in Toronto and was much more expensive than I hoped to pay ($135 CAD), any recommendations on reputable Naniwa dealers?
Finally, just out of curiosity, how much did you all pay for your first striaght-razor sets? I'm afraid I've invested much more than I needed to - I'm just interested in how much I've over invested.
Thanks.

Welcome to SRP! You have your hands fuller than you know right now learning how to strop, lather and shave yourself. Honing is not the place to start. Send your razor out to a pro for honing. It's not hard, there are several members that offer the service and have a quick turnaround. Until you become proficient with the razor you can't really tell if it is sharp enough. While your razor is out you can work on making lather and read all about stropping and razor care. We have all been there, relax and enjoy the ride.
