Question about new Norton hones
I've read some less than favorable comments about the Norton stones since they've moved manufacturing to Mexico.
I'm ready to purchase a set and try to learn to hone and I'm wondering if there's any reliable evidence of this drop in quality.
Can anyone weight in and comment?
thanks,

Thanked: 13246Marcos...
I think most of those negative comments were form the very first 6 months of production.. They have pretty much dropped off now...
I was just working with a brand new one yesterday at the Yakima meet and saw zero issues with it..
Just my opinion but, I think they have sorted out any problems by now...
Also it was just the 4k that need extra lapping to start with, and now it seems many are made in Italy tooLast edited by gssixgun; 03-21-2011 at 07:31 PM.

Thanks, Glen, I feel confident enough to pull the trigger now.
FWIW, the issues I had read about were about unevenness of grit and odd specs... something that gave me pause. The lapping thing is an easy fix; five minutes either way of lapping won't kill me, and if I've learned anything by reading about this it will pay off in spades in the end, and since I'm getting the set with the lapping stone it's all good.
All I need now is learn to hone. Wish me luck!

Thanked: 4942I still manage to wear out the 4K side of a Norton Combo once or twice a year and have had no issues with them either. One of the most consistent and reliable hones out there............still
On the honing, the more you do, the better you'll get..........
Have fun,
Lynn
