    Question Barber hone composition ??

I've never used an actual barbers hone. They seem from all the posts and such that I have read,to be miracle hones.I use all Naniwas and have good results.But..what are most barber hones made up of and why if they work better than honing stones(not sure) does anyone not currently make them such as the Dovo Co. or Thiers Issard ? What's the skinny on these guys ?

Here is a good thread on the topic that may answer some of your questions. If I'm not mistaken no company is making barber hones nowadays. Most barbers are shaving with replaceable blade straights if at all. There is one forum member who is hard at work trying to develop a barber hone based on the old formulas. He may have one out in the near future.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks Jimmy, this make take a while for me to look over completely, but good info here.Whoever is looking into making true barber hones I wish them luck. When I saw the old advertisement page(about 3 pages into the thread)I could tell what a lost art barber hones have been.I would love to see this part of the straight razor world come back to life.I love my nannys but this would be really cool to see happen. Thanks !
